Just wondering if there was anyone else that had oversized valves with the 3/8th stem. Looking for a set for a guy building a new car. The Engnbldr valves are only available in the intake size now. Anyone have a set they want to part with? Rick |

there is a guy on FABO that used 318 valves, if you want to stay with 3/8 diam stems, looks like an interesting possibility ,, the 318 valves are longer,, will need to re do the tips.. towards the end of the thread there are photos of the valves in the combustion chambers. http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/sho ... p?t=182649 |

I have used a lot of Mopar Big Block (B / RB) valves. 3/8 stem and only .100 longer. Use the 1.74 exhaust valve for an intake and turn-down the 1.6 exhaust version to 1.5 - 1.44 range, to use as the SL6 exhaust valve. These valves use the taller installed height valve springs (1.800 ) so that helps prevent coil bind with high lift cams. DD |

You can also use sbc 1.72 intake 1.50 exhaust. The 3/4 ton heavy duty valves are 3/8. They are 100 thou longer. You can also use the sbc springs and retainers. I had a ton of small valve stuff on hand. (We use bigger valves in our Chevs 1.94/1.60).....I dismantled a few old truck heads that had few miles after a rebuild and gave the shop 8 cyl sets to chose from. I bet lots of machine shops have this stuff on hand for cheap/free. The extra length + more cam lift = Smith Bros pushrods. I have these in the Valaint with the 280/270 Erson cam.....previously many miles with Comp 264. When I had my head done (in a Chevy oriented shop) I had them bowl hog the head , do the guides and setup the valve springs "juss like you doo the Chevs" . They seemed to understand......and it ended cheap and easy. The use of these valves requires combustion chamber work to be effective. This means relieving the chamber around the valves. If you are raising compression ratio it would seem better to deck the block instead of the head to keep the valve away from the block (Smooch/blam.....the sound of yer valves kissing the block deck) |
