OK, so I'm getting ready to do a front disk brake conversion on my 67 dart, which has the small drum brakes. 5x4 bolt pattern. I think the kit (using a 10" brake drum spindle from newer '74 dart) will make the front stick out 3/8 inch more than stock. I'm planning on switching to 15" x 7" mopar rallye rims (4.25 backspacing) from Summit. I'd like to put 225/60R15's all the way around, will the 4 1/4 backspacing work? Will I have to go with a narrower tire on the front? Can I get a 235 on the back (can go to 8" rim with smaller backset)? thanks for any insights. I think I'll do the conversion and then measure to be sure, but if anyone has thoughts I'd appreciate it. While I'm on tires, how come my spare doesn't lay all the way in the trunk recess? I have a 185/80R13 on factory steel rim, but when I put the board down it's hovering an inch above the trunk floor. Anyone know of a skinny spare setup? It's these little things that bug me... As far as the spare tire goes, I've researched it and it looks like that's how they came from the factory. You can even see the bump back there in some of the old car ads. It bugs me too but there's not much you can do about it. |

If I remember correctly, my first 67 Dart with 13†tires purchased in 71, the spare tire cover sat flat with the trunk’s floor. I think biased ply tires are not as bulbous as radial tires. I recall when radials first came out, everyone thought they needed air, as they looked rather squat compared to the normal biased ply tires of the day. |

Are you talking after market disk brake conversion, stock sbp upgrade or stock bbp upgrade?. With stock bbp upgrade, 4 1/4 backspace is the best choice for 7" wheels. But it does set your track out wider. I personally would not go larger than 205 or 215 on the front. Go as large as you can make work on the back. On my car the rear tends to be looser than the front, and would handle better with bigger tires on the back. They are currently 205 s all the way around. Sam |

The original 6.50 13 tires did fit in the wheel well... (that would be a 165mm width). I had some 1" styrofoam that I laid in the trunk under the mat to raise the floor to compensate for the tire width... |
