Watching the powerblock today horsepower was showing the benefits of a water/methanol kit on their 572 GM motor and I got to wondering how it would do on a stock 225. Has anyone tried it? If so what kind of difference did you notice on your engine? Thank you all for your input! |

I did a water system on a 225, not for power but to control carbon buildup in a worn out engine. Did not notice any improvement in power but when I had the chance to tear the engine down it was mostly clean inside the chambers. The engine I did it to had 128000 miles on the clock with no oil changes. Oil rings were worn down to the expander, and I got 20 miles to the quart of oil! |

I would see no advantage to this on a STOCK engine other than what the previous post talks about. Now on a really rodded slant, you MIGHT see some improvements, Maybe someone has messed with it and will post. M2C..A 572 bbc is NOT a "stock" engine, even though you maybe able to 'order' one from GM.. |

It will not make any improvement in performance or mileage, unles the engine is getting into detonation. There are several members on the site that have these systems on their turbcharged/supercharged engines. PS: I see you are from Knoxville, Tn. There is a Slant Six Drag Race at Knoxville dragstrip Fri nite & Sat nite, Aug 3-4, 2012. Why don't you join us? We always have a good time. |

That would be awesome! I probably won't have the truck road worthy by then but it would be a good chance to see what these engines can do with the right parts. Hopefully I can get off work in time to go (may have to take some time off)As for the water/meth, if it helps clean out the engine that would be a good thing I was really hoping to see some kind of improvement in the power department. These vehicles are pretty heavy for that small of an engine to be trying to move them around. |

I was getting pinging in my 85' Ram with the slant 6, I took the air filter housing off the carb and warmed the engine up, then put a mix of 3/4 water with 1/4 denat. alcohol in a spray bottle. I set the idle to a little faster than normal, and misted the water into the carb till it was gone. Make sure it is a mist so the engine doesn't hydro lock. That really seemed to clean out the carbon, and it doesn't ping anymore. I realize it isn't exactly what you were asking about, but getting rid of carbon is a big plus. |

Here is a link to the tracks website, for directions. http://www.knoxvilledragstrip.com/ The best way to increase power and economy with a slant six, is to make sure the "tune up" is correct. If everything there is ok, then these mods. Low restriction exhaust system (headers not required). After that I Would remove the head and mill it for increased compression. Others will argue about doing this (they have their preferences), but I think it is the best "bang for the buck". It is kind of labor intensive, and not real low dollar, but there is no down side. |

what is a good target compression? and what size exhaust/what is a good setup? What's left of the original exhaust looks to be 1 1/2 - 1 3/4 inch. I will definitely make sure I am at the track at least one of the days y'all are there! Can't wait to see some of your cars in action! |

There are different opinions about both. If it were me, I would go with a 2 1/4 inch exhaust pipe from manifold to the muffler. A low restriction muffler (like a "Hemi", "turbo", etc), and a 2 inch pipe from the muffler back. For compression ratio, I would shoot for a "honest" 9.0-1. Don't guess, measure. |

I have been running water/methanol injection for at least 10 years on my SL6's both stock and on my 9.5 to 1 compression engines. Like mentioned earlier on, it has few side benefits, like reducing detonation when using lots of advance, keeping the head and valves clean and over all better mileage. As for driving response the engines feel crisper or spunky. At idle the exhaust has zero pops, just crisp and steady. From time to time I forget to refill it for a few weeks and the exhaust popping returns and the engine feels like it has lost it's spunk. The system is set up so it doesn't engage below 2000 rpm. I have found this works much better and you don't go through a lot of fluid. Currently I am running a barn find, stock 1979 SL6 engine with several 100,000 miles on it. The engine has cleaned up nicely and runs great. I recently took it on a trip with the car loaded over 2 mountain passes and it did very well averaging 25 mpg for the entire trip. |

keeping the combustion chamber clean is an understatement, i have trouble trying to read the plugs, timing and heat range is fine but rich or lean is hard. wide band 02 helps. |
