HI all,

I'm working through some long overdue and much needed maintenance on a 73 Dart w/225 and have a fuel pump curiosity. Initially, I wasn't able to locate the fuel filter but, consulting the '73 FSM, I began looking at the pump as the FSM shows the fuel filter housed in the outlet tower for this model year. However, the the outlet tower doesn't look like it's threaded, capped, or have any other way of containing a removable filter.

I'm beginning to think the pump is a replacement and that fuel is running unfiltered. Can those familiar w/the '73 /6 pump take a look and give some guidance?

Thanks![/img]

Well I dont really know if its a replacement pump but you are correct in the fact it doesnt have a filter in the picture...

BTW change the to and take out the last set of brackets for the [/img]... turns it into a clickable link.. JFYI

That fuel pump with integral screwed-in fuel filter was announced as a new feature for '73. It doesn't seem to have made it onto many '73s before the production lines went back to the regular type of pump. I'm not sure why, and I don't find any recall or TSB or "up to/after" split in the parts catalogues. My mid-production '73, bought with very low miles, had a regular fuel pump without integral filter (and a regular in-line filter just like every other slant-6 built since 1962).

Do the Fuel line mod.

Guys, thanks for the into!

<Dan>
Yep, I plan to reroute the fuel line per the mod article. Nice idea! I'm finishing work on the cooling system, now. Fuel system is next.

Since I don't have an integrated filter pump, since there's no filter anywhere on the engine bay line route, and since I can't feel one when tracing the line back to the tank (don't have a lift, so I can't see under very well), I'm working on the assumption that the car currently doesn't have a fuel filter. Guess I'll learn more when I clean up the fuel sys.
