I am curious to know what everyone is doing for windshield wipers. I have the stock 13 inchers and the blades are becoming scarce. I finally found some and bought out the stock at the local parts store (2 blades). Layson's had some but were also out of stock. Any other year/model/make fit the 64 Darts?

Thank you

Dave

You can replace the 13" blades with 15" ones (whole wiper with insert) from Anco, or another company (Anco is best IMO). You can get these at any parts store. Been running these on my Darts for eons and they work better than stock.

Thanks Lou

Help me understand how you attach the new 15inch wiper blades to the old chrome wiper arm. Mine appears to have some sort of press fitting?? which holds the wiper blade onto the arm. Do you take all of this off? Then attach how? with a new Anco blade?

Thank you.

Dave

You start with the stock wiper arm (with whole blade removed). The Anco blades should just slip over the arm and have a little hole that meets the retainer peg on the wiper arm. Anco blades will have instructions for several types of attachment. If you need to look up a compatible blade, just look up blades for a '76 Dart, Valiant... Later model Volares and Aspens should have the same, but I'm not sure.

Make sure to get the complete Anco blades with frames (1 per box), instead of just the refills.

Lou

Hi Lou

Just wanted to give you an update. Purchased new 15inch wiper blades for the 64 Dart. Removed the old wiper arms and installed the new ones as you described. The only difference that I have from your setup is I do not have the retainer peg on the wiper arm that would snap into the hole on the new Anco wiper blade. All I have is a hole on the arm. It does fit very snug, so I will just have to find away to secure the arm to the blade. Thanks again for the quick responses and the great advice!

Dave

Glad to be of help. The press fit may be good enough...

They will more then likely work themselves off the arm. Do you have the OE wiper arms with the nut holding them to the wiper pivot or some aftermarket setup (both my '64 and '65 had aftermarket wiper arms)? I believe the OE setup won't work with the new wiper blades (the little nub that fits into the hole on the wiper blade mount is not present). It is also my opinion that anything bigger the 13" on the right side is a waste of time. The 13" wiper blade dosen't follow the contour of the window, so why go bigger.

I have the OE chrome wiper arms held on with the nut holding them at the pivot.

I can't speak for anyone else, but this appears to be a good swap. Both blades clear a larger area and the blades are readily available. The right one follows the contour of the window with the exception of about 1 inch when it is parked. The left is perfect.
