My super six is not going as planned. Got the manifolds apart and noticed two small cracks on the underside across the ribbing. Don't appear to have been leaking exhaust, but definitely there. Should I (A) ignore these little guys, (B) have them repaired by a machinist, or (C) use my non-super six exhaust manifold in the car now?

You can have them ground out and filled. You need to warm up the manifold until it glows, then make the repair and let it cool slowly.

Or just use the old manifold if it isn't also cracked, manifolds are the same bolt together items.

Totally not worth trying to repair. It will crack again right next to the repair and you'll have to do it again. Get a different exhaust manifold; new aftermarket ones don't cost much more than $110. But you may not even need to buy one -- there is no difference in size or flow between 1bbl and 2bbl exhaust manifolds. The only differences are by production year, and the only important differences are in the shape and configuration of the choke pocket. That's not an insurmountable issue; if your 1bbl exhaust manifold is not a '73-up item, just use Electric choke kit #1232 (good idea anyhow because unlike the factory choke the electric one is adjustable).

Silly question, but here goes. Can this one be expected to work okay in it's present condition? It doesn't appear to be leaking and I drive the car once or twice a month only. Don't hammer me too hard. I'm a cheap bastard and I know it.

Not realistically or reasonably, no. If the crack doesn't leak now, it soon will. Manifold R&R is a big pain in the neck (and back). You will regret making yourself do it again.

new casting and used slant six exhaust manifolds show up from time to time on e bay,, or another option is,,,,there are a bunch of slant six fanatics that visit this site,, post a wanted item on this forum,, there may be someone not far away that will part with one..if you are around central IN, I'll give one to you.

Where are you? At least roughly. We can probably drum up a decent one. Of course I'm sitting smack dab in the middle of a state with no Military bases but for our Illustrious and most appreciated Coast Guard. I doubt your that close to me with your Gama Goats and what not.

DadTruck, thank you very kindly for offering to give me one!! I am in Gainesville, Florida. I still have the original non-slant six in my car now. I am crossing my fingers that it is not cracked. I just found one on Google at exhaust world or some such company for $288! I'm afraid I'd use the cracked one for a while at that price! I am learning every time I visit here. Thanks.

Chrysler made an improved exhaust manifold on the '80s models, they added cast-in strengthening ribs, and an oxygen sensor port. I recommend finding this type, used. I think I had to enlarge the one hole through the intake for a larger diameter stud. It's most important that the installation procedure be followed correctly. I've had to replace 3 or 4 cracked exhaust manifolds, but never had one of my installations crack. I believe incorrect torqueing is the cause of most cracking. This manifold was coated with POR-20 over 20 years ago, good stuff.
