If I use a Felpro intake/exhaust gasket set, will I be doing it again with Remflex later or will the Felpro work fine? That remflex gasket is expensive.

If the mating surfaces have been freshly machined, or, if you can check them with a straight edge and a feeler tape and they are fairly flat, then the Felpro or a stock shim gasket will work. If anything is out of whack, or you are mating something out of the ordinary (i.e. hyperpack and dual duals), or you want to be 'safe', or can't afford to have your set up machined properly, then the Remflex is for you. (I use them for peace of mind when assembling performance builds...)

What's your time worth? If $0.00/hour, then by all means use the gasket that stands you an excellent chance of having to do the job again (and again…until you use a real working gasket set).

I would not use the FelPro gasket. The manifolds move around so much during the heat cycles it will eventually fail. If you want a cheap gasket that is one step better than a FelPro, use a Corteco. They are very similar to a Remflex and are fragile, and easily damaged, so have the autoparts folks open the box to inspect it before you purchase it. They aren't too bad...if you are the type that do not follow installation instructions.
I have worked with Remflex a lot and they are really worth the price. The are super folks to work with. If a gasket should fail do to improper installation, like over torquing the bolts, overly pinching/squishing the gasket they will send another free. I use teflon spray on the head and brass nuts so the manifolds can't be over torqued. It is a great product for our application. I also use their exhaust pipe to manifold gasket and never had one fail. That is really good when your working with a 40 year old manifold.

I have actually had several Remflex exhaust flange gaskets fail on my brother's 83 Dodge van. However, his exhaust flange is warped and the muffler line was not adequately supported. The line has been braced and so far no more leaks.

My point is that Remflex gasket work great at sealing old pitted and warped manifolds, but there are limits. I still highly recommend Remflex gaskets, especially on the exhaust flange.

Good point Reed! The stock muffler pipe brace that hangs off the engine does make a big difference in helping keep exhaust pipe movement and flexing to a minimum and goes a long ways to keeping everything sealed, whether your hauling or racing.
There is a limit to how much engine movement you can sustain and keep leaks to a minimum no matter what brand gasket you use!

Thanks guys. I ordered one this afternoon. I also ordered the Lokar kickdown linkage kit. Their tech dept was very helpful.

Sorta wish Chrysler had gone to the flare-and-cone style of headpipe to manifold junction on the \6 as they did on the V8s or, better, the type used on the FWD 2.2/2.5 motors.

I actually mocked up a 318 stocker flange and 'flare' end on a slant six manifold...it might have worked, but that 'lip' where the flare mates to the /6 manifold just didn't look good for flow...
