Hello all, I'm going from a '63 7 1/4 rear in my Valiant to a '73 8 1/4 limited slip. I've had the driveshaft shortened, and modified to a spicer slip yoke in the front. This leaves the issue of what to do with the rear flange. The flange on the 8 1/4 is wider than the 7 1/4 unit on the back of the 63's driveshaft. I can't figure anybody'd make a small/large u joint. So, this brings me to swapping the flange on the axle... it looks like the 7 1/4 piece will fit except for the "shield" on the back of the flange. Is there an easier solution? I really don't want to have to reset the rear end clearances in the car. thanks, Matt Moffitt PS, car is up on stands in garage, and occupying premium space, in the interest of time.. please feel free to call 804.787.4269 thanks |

Nevermind, wonderful forum community! The problem has been solved thanks to '65 Dartman. Apparently they do make wonky different sized u-joints. Crisis averted, wife... not happy yet, but will love it once she drives it. Thanks again! |
