I need to replace the brake switch on the single pot M/C in my 61 Lancer wagon. Can it be removed without loosing all the brake fluid in the M/C?

Yes, you won't lose much fluid if you work quickly and efficiently. But you will need to bleed the system after you R&R it.

Those hydraulic switches are the pits. Better: put a metal plug in place of the hydro switch and retrofit a mechanical switch. See here (same link I provided you in yesterday's PM).

ha! well....it's bound to get confusing. it sounds like dart4forte and i have parallel lives. we both sent gary goers a cowl seal and both are having break switch problems.
the difference is...i'm going to ask a dumb question!
what all does it take to install the mechanical switch? basically, you're plugging the bottom of the master cylinder and moving the operation to the brake pedal?
let's say i have to hold off on that....are the napa echlin sl-169 or bluestreak sls-66 both hydraulic switches? i guess i'm confused how they are "adapted". keep in mind i haven't even removed or really seen my own faulty brake switch yet....i just know it's leaking! i wouldn't have even known that is what it was until my uncle told me that's what it was......

No, the P/Ns I gave are mechanical switches. Adaptation may require drilling a new hole or two in the bracket above the brake pedal arm. If you could see how it's all put together on a '62-'66 car with mechanical brake light switch. I don't have one nearby to photograph. Someone reading this must.

do you happen to know the part number for the hydraulic switch though?
i have tried a few places (pep boys, KOI) and they keep pointing me to this

and that ain't gonna work.
the idea here is that for time being i replace the hydraulic switch as it is to stop the leak while i am tackling other things and move to the mechanical down the road......
