Ok so I have a 73 dart custom 4 dr. according to the p.o. it has a later model intake (idk if this matters or not). However I cannot get the holley 1920 to cooperate. I have had 4 different carburetor guys work on tuning it and they all have come to the conclusion that it has got to go. Anybody have recomendations on which carbs are good replacements? I'm pretty broke right now so I'm tryin to do this as cheap as possible and I just need it to get me to and from work. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. |

"Broke" and "Need a carb that works well" are two things that don't go well together. ![]() It is entirely possible the carburetor is at end of life. It's also possible the problem is simple. It's also possible the problems you're experiencing (such as?) are not in the carburetor at all. Carburetor operation and repair manuals and links to training movies and carb repair/modification threads are posted here for free download. |

well i mean i'm not less than $10 broke but I would like to keep this under a couple hundred. Also some more info, when i got the dart like a week and a half ago, the carb was "rigged" so that the car would be driveable ish the P.O said that the idle circuit was leaded over (I didn't disassemble to verify this tho) I retuned the carb following the pdf file you linked (i've been doin my homework too) and after bout 3 hours of tuning, the only thing I suceeded in completing was makin my car undrivable. Thats when i decided to take it to a mechanic and get a couple second opinions. Also I was wondering if I could bolt a 2 barrel carb on the 1 barrel intake? |

Yes, but it is a bad idea. Fix your one barrel carb first. What would really help us help you would be some nice detailed pictures of the carburetor from various angles as well as clear concise descriptions of the problems you are experiencing. Tell us what the problems are, what you have done, and what the motor is or isn't doing. |

That's doable. I probably have a brand-new carb on the shelf suitable for your car -- not a "remanufactured" pile of junk. Cost would be around $200. Send me a PM if you're interested.Quote: Also I was wondering if I could bolt a 2 barrel carb on the 1 barrel intake?
Yes, with an adaptor that will screw up your transmission, throttle, and choke linkages and probably prevent you closing the hood, but even without those problems: Don't. If you want to convert to a 2bbl, do it right (with a 2bbl intake manifold and associated pieces). Hard to do that swap well on a tight budget these days.
