Anyone know where to get some decent 10" drums? found some on kragens website, raybestos, that are about $65 each. any ideas? Also, on the cars that did come with 10" drums all around, are the front drums interchangeable with the back ones? On the parts car I have I believe that the front drums are of same size as back (haven't removed them and measured yet) but they look completely different, they have a spring that goes all the way around them. |

I just checked Autozone's online catalog and they list different part number for front and rear, so I would guess that they don't interchange. |

Interesting, yes I just noticed that slantzilla, but whats wierder is for 71 they dont list anything for front, and 8191 for rear (using 71 duster340 profile) but for 72, they list part # 8754 for front and 8191 for rear. Im just curious as to the quality of these drums, or would I just be better off finding some original mopars in the yard that I can have re-ground. $60ish sounds awfully cheap for anything decent. I just want something to put on the rear end till I get it bolted to the car n'all to get it situated then get a disc brake kit for it. |

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... gory=10076 That ebay link claims that those are rear drums, but those look just like the front drums on the 340duster partscar, minus the spring that goes all the way around the outside. My rear ones have ribs that stretch from the front of the drum to the back, and have outward-flare on the back |

The front and rear drums are nothing alike. Rears use 1 3/4" wide shoes, fronts use 2 1/4" up to '71, then 2 1/2" till '75. Shoes may interchange with both front drums. The rear part # change must be the cooling fins the newer cars had. I didn't know 10" rear drums were readily available for the A bodys, that only the fronts were. Cecil |

My rear ones don't have ribs, those were the 9" drums. Too many unused stuffs in the backyard |

The drums changed appearance quite a lot over the model years. |

I'd get hold of a brake gauge and go hunting at the yards. I've found drums and rotors both that heve never been turned and had damn near as much meat on 'em as a brand new set for a whole lot less money. Last time I checked, alot of the new ones seemed to be coming from Canada or Brazil. If you REALLY want to spend some money, go shopping for new 9" drums. Just one MORE reason for early A-body owners to upgrade. ---Red |

As far as the quality of the Autozone drums(and rotors) Ihave run those on just about all my old mopars without any troubleand have always got good service from them.I just ordered front($51)and rear($49) drums for my 61 Valiant from them as well as the shoes and master cylinder. Just a little extra info,Autozone didnt have brake hardware but Advance Auto did($6.69).It takes two kits but it has all the hardware neccasary to completely rebuild the brakes except for the wheel cylinders and i found those on the shelf at Autozone($9.95-rear $15.95 front). |
