Post subject:  Headlights Flickering

I just noticed this last night. When driving, the headlights will flicker, meaning that they will go dim for a fraction of a second, go back to bright, then dim, etc. I'm thinking that there is a loose, or corroded connection somewhere. Both headlights go dim and bright again at the same time.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

What else flickers at the same time? Ammeter, dashboard lights? If yes, then you've got charging system issues. If no, then you've got headlamp circuit issues. Headlamp switch and beam kickswitch were underspecified when new and don't improve with age, same goes for the wiring and connectors. Wiggle connector at kickswitch and see if you can recreate the flicker.

See here and articles on Allpar here and here. The photos of the headlight beams on the road in both articles are very poor, but the text is very descriptive and accurate.

Dimmer switch sounds like a good place to start, my lights did a similar thing. On two occasions they went out for several seconds before coming back on. I replaced the dimmer switch and have not had anymore problems.

If everything isn't affected at once (that would point to a cheap remanf alternator...), my next guesses would be the ground at the radiator support not being good...also in the late cars the headlight switch gets corroded and will cause these problems (or worse, the headlights just plain go out!).

Thanks for the responses guys.
Dan, as far as I can tell, the headlights are the only thing flickering. However, for years, the digital clock (original) would sometimes go out when the headlights were on. The clock would come back on if I wiggled the headlight switch.
I bought a replacement headlight switch before this started happening, so I might as well put that in anyway.
Thanks again for the responses, I will keep ya'll informed.
I will also check the ground near the radiator support.
