I have been studying the sticky http://www.slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=48219 on the 10" slant six performance clutch install. I have been using that to research clutch options. As far as I can tell the pressure plate listed McLeod # 360116 is for a Ford / Mazda 4.0L as used in 1990 to 2000 rangers, explorers and b-4000 's I cannot find the bolt pattern listed for this one but centerforce shows the kit as cft116116 with a 260 mm clutch and a ford 1" 23 spline input shaft. Other interesting clutch options I found are: The mazda 86 to 89 rx7 turbos it is 240 mm 1" 23 spline input shaft with a bolt pattern center of 10 7/8 which will drill into a stock flywheel nicely. (Centerforce CF020544) the 87 to 90 mopar imported conquest / mitsubishi starion 2.6L turbo. It is 240 mm 1" 23 spline input shaft that I cant find a bolt pattern to. since it is sort of mopar I have to wonder if it might have the 10 5/8th bolt pattern making it a mostly bolt in replacement. (Centerforce CF033537) BTW i used centerforce part numbers because I was able to search through just their 1" 23 spline part numbers making it only a couple hours of work. http://media.centerforce.com/Catalog/FL ... ES_Web.pdf this link takes you to their flywheel notes which is not currently working from their site link. Has anyone tried clutches from any of these applications? can anyone get more information on these? My personal plan is to find out as much as I can about these options and then get a standard clutch kit from Autozone or Napa. If i decide I need extra holding power in my daily driver I can always get a better kit down the road. As for machining the stock flywheel I am not worried about it. There are some world class machinists where I work and im not planning to race this car anyway. (at least not unless I save up money for some SFI approved stuff between my engine and trans in a couple years) |

An SFI scatter shield isn't needed until you go sub 10 seconds or 135. We talked about this very issue at the strip this weekend. A certified shield for a SB could be used if it was raised just enough to clear the starter bulge. A midplate could be made to allow the scatter shield to be mounted. That should not effect the rating, and still provide protection across the arc of the flywheel. Check with your local tech inspector. 2¢ CJ |

Dunno if the OP was wanting/needing the SFI schtuff... Think he is wanting options for "what fits". Easier to ask the local parts guys(term used VERY losely) parts for a late model whatever than for a 30-50 year old car that causes that look of deer in the headlights... |

Good Research. Yes Mazada and Ford Both have the 1X23 Spline count. Greg |

Summit has a blow proof bell for the slant. I also had a talk with Tony Defeo the other weekend. (google that name) He has modified a SB bell for the slant in the past. I don't plan on going 10 seconds or 135 in the quarter. I am planning on doing hard launches, and walking with all my toes for a long time. |

Interesting... Can you provide a link for that one? Who makes this? Greg |

http://slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php ... c&start=75 This wasn't what I was looking for. I know damn good and well there was one on Summit. Their search sucks. A phone call would find it. I never have luck searching on this site either. |

I don't run standards, so I could be wrong. The only slant six scatter shield housing I am aware of is the "Quicktime". http://www.summitracing.com/search/?key ... 2%20&dds=1 Says they can ship, today |

Good to see those are apparently available. The Bonneville Barracuda of Bob Dally (orig project of Josh Skinner) has one with an 833 behind it. Lou |

Lou Did it look good, like a quality Piece? Greg |

Yes, it was a good looking piece. The only serious problem I know of is coming up with a Z-bar mount. I was going to use a hydraulic pull cylinder aft of the bellhousing. Another thing is the lack of a pocket for the starter nose. Might have to make a bushing for the larger mounting hole on the starter so that the bolts positively locate the starter. |

Ick. I don't like that starter nose issue. I would use a hydro slave cylinder concentric with the input shaft anyway, so only need to route fluid lines out of the bell. Josh, do you think that bell would fit a 10.5" V8 clutch inside? Lou |

I don't see the lack of starter nose support as being critical. Chrysler did away with it on later production stuff and it works fine. No, I don't think a 10.5" clutch would fit, but I reserve the right to be wrong. |
