Post subject: | Bench test my Slant 6 |
I have a slant 6 on an engine stand and want to know the best way to run the engine out of the car. In particular, how should I mount the engine to ‘bench test’ and run it safely, and what connections, etc., do I need to set up to start and run the engine. Thanks. |

Basically you will need to recreate an engine bay on a cart... Radiator, battery box, cables, ignition circuit, gauges to check coolant temp, charging circuit... You will also need to mount a flywheel and a bellhousing to it to be able to mount a starter as well. One of these is on my winter bucket list, I have all the parts and will be using some 3/4" all thread connections so I can mount a late A-body K-frame to it so I can break in and test an engine after build then plug and play the mill into the car right after (motor mounts and all)... I'm also thinking about something to to keep the crank position positive that can be bolted to the crank and fly wheel to keep the crank from walking back and forth during break in, which can beat up the thrust bearing... I have seen some buddies literally drop a V-8 on the ground on it's oil pan, hook up a rough ignition system and battery with a hose from the gas can to the fuel pump, just to fire it to prove it runs before selling it, but they wouldn't run it longer than a few seconds with no cooling capability. -D.Idiot |
