Hello, I recently acquired a 64 Valiant Signet 200 two door hardtop. It needs a new exhaust and i would like some rumble coming out of my pipes when i get on it. Thank you for your feedback, Gary

Lots of folks like the Flowmaster series. Much of your choice comes down to personal preference.

Be careful however, often times something that sounds really raucous and cool in the beginning can get really annoying after a few days... Especially if you enjoy taking long drives in your Valiant.

I am leaning towards a 31 inch glasspack like a thrush dynomax 22 bucks and they should not be to loud.

A buddy had a long glasspack on his Duster, split into duals coming out in front of each rear tire. Sounded super cool at idle, but was annoying to drive it for any length of time. If you're building a weekend cruiser, or something to hit the local shows with, I say go for it! If you're building a daily, I'd keep looking, personally. I have a Borla turbo muffler on mine, with is quieter than a flowmaster style chambered muffler, and it is about as loud as I would want for a daily driver. Your personal taste may vary...

I must concur with what's been said. I had a local custom muffler shop put in 2 1/4 inch pipe with a flowmaster muffler. The sound is very tough at idle. However, it's rather annoying driving around--it sounds more like a buzz while driving. I wouldn't be able to tolerate it if it was my daily driver. That said, I do like the tone produced at idle and it shows well as a result.

I guess i want both worlds and that is my problem. i want to hear the car idle but do not want to have that annoying drone when i iam driving 70. I want to be able to listen to my am radio when i am driving down the highway. I live in the KC area and will be on the interestate a lot. I guess i need to find the happy medium. I dont want to spend a whole lot.

Hey no Trailer, Welcome to the forums.

I'm actually getting 26" cherrybomb glasspacks installed sometime this upcoming week. It will be true duals out of dutra duals 2" with an X pipe and 2 Cherry bomb 87502s before the rear axle. While it's not the thrush packs your looking at, I'll make a short youtube vid once their installed and post a link here so you can hear it. If it drones or is too loud, I'll install a resonator or something. Cross that bridge when I get there.

any type of turbo sonic with a split chamber(not straight threw) balance tube and smaller dia tail pipe right to the bumper should be pretty good. i had duals to the front of the back wheels,2 royal scotts with a balance tube and it was pretty good to my ear at 3000rpms cruising at 60mph.

I would run a FlowMaster HP2 in front of a FlowMaster 40. That we you can have the best of both worlds. No raspy snarl at cruise and a great idle to low speeds sounds around town. The HP2 filters out the rasp and the FM40 will give you a nice low rumbly sound.

I am currently running the HP2 in front of a FM70 which is too quiet, quieter than stock. At speed on the freeway you don't even hear the exhaust, just the wind...Head pipe is 2 1/4" to match my enlarged (hogged out) stock exhaust manifold to a 2.5" HP2 and 2.5" to the FM 70 and 2.5" the rest of the way back. So this setup is over kill in terms of being very quiet.

For fun you could also run a Thrush knock off ($30.00) or a FM30 behind a HP2. I have tried several arrangements reversing the parts other mufflers etc. I think this is the best combination and tames the SL6 very well and provides a very free flowing exhaust.

Best sounding exhaust?

I vote straight dumps behind the left front tire! :D

Just got to make sure the dumps don't fall off the headers after a bunch of passes, Eh Andrew? Burns the wiring and cables to a crisp!

I have Clifford shorties to a true dual 2" system with an X-pipe. I'm running Smithy's glasspacks in front of the axle. Extremely awesome sound. I've had older guys used to V-8s say that they can actually listen to a six cylinder now :)

. . . although it does drone right around 55 MPH. On the freeways it's not a problem at 70 MPH.

Gives me a good excuse to keep it well above 60. I did a 400 mile round trip with it last summer and I was able to keep it at speeds where I avoided the drone. Now, if this was a car I drove a lot, I'd probably drop more $$ on different mufflers - I know there's a Dynomax that has a flap that opens under harder acceleration that's supposed to get rid of any drone. I'm curious to hear if it actually works. If so, that might be a viable muffler.
