Okay, I'm slow...I admit it. My current slant (1974 Duster) has a single barrel carb. I upgraded the exhaust to 2 1/4" as suggested here. Drives great, runs great. I've acquired the super six components. What is the improvement offered by the super six upgrade? I don't really need more speed, but I would like a bit more pep from a stop. Set me straight here. Should I be changing the differential gear set instead of worrying about carburetion? Or will I notice an immediate change with the super six? |

On my 170, when I switched to a super six setup with a Carter BBD off or a 1976 Dodge Truck 318, I noticed a big difference immediately. I also noticed a huge difference when I got the base timing set right along with a vacuum gauge. That felt like a bigger gain than swapping to a bigger carb. |

2bbl driveability is much better (assuming a good carburetor properly adjusted). Much less wheezy and snappier around town and on the highway, with equal or better fuel economy. This is a good step. Another: HEI upgrade And have you checked for timing chain slack? |

I changed my exhaust and did a lot of porting work (on the exhaust manifold only) to make sure it fit correctly... at the same time as switching to a super six. I'm not sure which or if both helped but it gives it more guts low end. Better climbing hills without flooring it on the highway also. Mine is 3 spd on the column and it was impossible to make a "rolling stop" in 2nd gear and 1st is not synchronized so I'd have to make a complete stop (or learn to drive which I have since done). Now it will take off in second gear. Great upgrade and on a truck the original linkage hooks right up to the carburetor... I worried about that a long time and it just snapped on. I've seen people with a chain running to the carb - I guess they just didn't try. Danny |
