I read where using Dodge 2.2 Tubo pistons on 198 CI slant 6 rods can provide a nice set-up although the comment I read had no specifics or details. Are any of you running this and if so, how is it working for you and how are you using it (street only street / race, etc)? These pistons appear to be dished. With that in mind, what have you done with deck height / quench? - EM |

I have built many of these engines ("long rod" 225's) and they are all working well. The 18 cc dish "Turbo get you around 8 to 1 compression. The "non-turbo" version, with the smaller dish or "valve groove" gets you in the 9 to 1 range. A flat top piston at zero deck get you over 11 to 1 compression. DD |

Is there a materials or strength advantage to the turbo piston? Or is it just purely the dish size that differs? |

The piston material and over-all construction changes with each manufacturer. With the Silvolite 2.2 pistons, there is the 1290H, 1291H & 1292, the first 2 ("H") are hypereutectic material and the 1292 is not. None of these have steel expansion control struts. The factory 2.2 pistons have the steel struts but unknown material alloy. The KB239 & 268 are also Hyper with no struts but use a special heat treatment for added hardness. The Wiseco units are forged pistons and there were also forged TRW and Sealed Power units, that are now discontinued but some still "pop-up" now and again. For a "budget" street build, the KB units are a good choice but more $$ then the Silvolite units. The Wiseco forged pistons are also a great value. Shop around.... One down side that I've come across with the 2.2 pistons is the price for a good set of rings, being that we need two sets of them. I've been looking into using something different for my next build. |

There are a number of less expensive options. See this thread: http://www.slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=25197 DD |

you will only need one set of rings if ordered for a late model 3.0 toyota v6 engine- 1990 toyota pickup will be the right stuff- this is what I used- these rings must be file fitted first though as the ring gap was very narrow out of the box
I've been looking into using something different for my next build. |
