More of a curiosity than anything, I just recently purchased a 65' D-100 which is a bit of a misnomer. It is a 61-64 style so it would probably be called an "early 65".

Anyway, I was a bit surprised when I opened the hood to see a very pale yellow factory engine color. I had not personally seen that before. I ran accross a website this wekend that listed factory engine colors for slant 6's and the usual, orange, turquise, red, etc, were listed but not yellow. The color actually looks good so when I rebuild or re-paint, I'd like to use the same color.

Do any of you have this same color on your factory engine? Do you know the paint code?

Yes, they did indeed paint some slant sixes yellow.

Metallic dark turquoise: Some 1960-'61 Plymouth-Dodge full size cars, North American market

Silver: 1961 (RV1 sold as "1962") Valiant, Australian market, some '60-'61 Plymouth-Dodge full size cars, some '61 Valiant/Lancer.

Red: 1962-68 all passenger cars, all markets, except as specified below, plus most 1960-61 Valiant/Lancer, North American market

Turquoise-blue: 1962 or 1963 through 1966 Canada-market 170 engines, plus all slant-6s in 1969 passenger cars & trucks throughout the North American market

Blue: 1970-1982 all passenger cars & trucks, North American market

Turquoise-green: 1967-1969, w/2bbl carb, Australian market

Orange: 1967-19??, w/2bbl carb, South African market

Yellow: 1962-early 1969 truck/bus, North American market (some '61-'62 got red)

Black: 1983-up, all applications, North American and probably other markets.

I think it would more likely be called an erroneously-titled '64. Check the build date.

The slant six in our 1961 D300 was painted gold, I know it was factory since we bought the truck in 1964.

That's my truck. I searched for a couple of years and you just can't get the original color (there has been some debate) unless you have it special made. All I could find to special make was not engine paint so I didn't want to use it.

That picture shows it looking about as it should - maybe still a little too bright - but it's the picture. It's really bright yellow and nothing like it was when I started.

It is completely original and kept in a garage all it's life. I'm on the fence about whether they were ever canary yellow and it just faded. No way to find out for certain but one of our guru's says mine faded. Either way it turned out pretty good with the brighter yellow paint.

I also used VHT high temp paint around where the exhaust bolts to the intake in an experiment to see if it burns off again. One light coat of the other color to make it match.
