| Post subject: | Lower control arm |
I'm on the last steps of my k-member replacement. The lower control arms are at the shop to get the outer shells pressed out. I think I can do the inner shells by chiseling four grooves in them to relieve the press fit, as shown in this article: http://www.moparmusclemagazine.com/tips ... trol_arms/ But when I took the LCAs out, I noticed there was a lot of play in the torsion bar anchor - more on one side than the other-. How do I remedy that? 1/ Can it be as simple as mounting the CA in a bench vise and squeezing the members back together? Or is there a better method? 2/ How much play should I be going for? I understand that the anchor does not move relative to the control arm once the ride height is set and the control arm shaft is tightened up. Thanks in advance, Mike |

Yes, Squeeze the arm in a vice then weld a strap across the bottom, to hold it. Suppliers now make a "fancy" piece of metal to box the entire lower area of the LCA but that is overkill for what you are doing. Me... I just compressed the LCA in a vise, weld a 1 inch wide steel strap across the gap, between the adjusting screw and the pivot point, then call it "good". DD

I do not know how much "slop" is allowable but I do get them as tight as I can, when doing the "vise & strap" process. I have lots of extra LCAs if you need a tighter replacemen unit... Send me a PM. DD |

Thank you; we'll see how the guy at the shop does with the shells. If he welds them to the CAs, well, I'll come knocking at your door.I have lots of extra LCAs if you need a tighter replacemen unit... Send me a PM. DD Mike |
