Post subject:  Mapping my DIY Electronic Ignition :)
Got my distributor fixed, now mapping the ignition timing vs. RPM vs. load using the handheld trigger.

I can retard/advance the ignition timing at every 500rpm increments (15 steps i.e. 0 - 7500rpm) vs. load (throttle). Here is a picture or two :

and here ive also fitted the 3-3/8" Sun Pro Tacho on the column (can't fit on top, no clearance)

500 RPM steps are rather large for spark mapping. I also doubt you will get your slant to rev to 7500 RPM unless it is not stock. You have the right idea though, just get it down to 100 or 50 RPM steps.

I forget to say that you can map it up to 500rpm increment. I am doing 300rpm increments (0-4500rpm) which I think is reasonable, for a start.

Does the system use linear interpolation between RPM steps? I'm hoping so as it would be a handicap to stair-step from one value to another at the 300 RPM thresholds. Also, are the step sizes fixed across the speed range?

Syed I too had a clearance issue when mounting the same model tachometer to steering column at 2 0’clock. What I discovered is if the gage is mounted about ½ to ¾ inch from column it just fits. To accomplish this I crushed a short length of rubber hose left over from PCV valve re-plumb job which shimmed out the base of gage from column and held the whole shoot’en match on with a radiator hose clamp painted black.
