Recently put a nice set of 17X8 American Racing Torq Thrust wheels on my rig, and I would like to take about 3" out of the ride height in the rear. I need suggestions also on shocks and springs as I am about to replace them.

For most trucks & vans, ther rear axle housing "perches" are welded to the top of the housing tubes... so the springs mount on the top side, to create more body height.
Most passenger cars have the perches mounted on the bottom of the axle tubes and that lowers the height.
You may look at getting a set of weld-on spring purches and adding them to your housing, on the bottom side of the tubes.

Pulling a couple leafs out of the spring pack, getting extended shackles (if there's room before the bed floor), or moving the spring mounts up on the frame are a few more options for you. Just depends upon the time/money/skills you have available as to which one is the best option.
