I used a simular kit for the buld on the 83 D-150,, I went with allen heads.
The best part is having all new, clean fasteners to work with.

The only thing a bit tricky are the intake / exhaust manifold studs. The OE studs are not fully threaded,, the stainless studs I received were,, and as some of the tapped holes in the head go all the way in,, running the nut on,, would also run the stud in,, so I figured out where I wanted the stud to stop and used a chisel to wrinkel the threads... with some sealant on the threads, the studs tightened in fine.

as far as what grade they are,, be particular with rod, head, main, flywheel bolts.

Thanks! The rods,Torque Converter and flex plate bolts I replaced with ARP.
The problem has been the water pump bolts(long) and the exhaust to intake manifold bolts(3)
The water pump bolts are grade 5, but 48 years of exposure got to them and the exhaust heat cycles probably did a number on them.
Are there any better recommendations for these areas?

the chart from bolt depot lists the relative tensile strengths among bolt grades,

http://www.boltdepot.com/fastener-infor ... Chart.aspx

and if you want to put together your own engine bolt kit,, either Bolt Depot or McMaster Carr would have about everthing you need.

Yeah, I made my own Bolt kit at Fastenal! I dumped out a bag of bolts on the counter and they went through them group by group and we replaced almost everything, some were lengths they did not have in stock, and some just didn't need to be replaced(yet).-Thanks
