Post subject:  RV Cam lifter clearances

Hi Guys,
I installed an Erson RV 10 M cam with a F212/295 grind on it. The spec paper calls for .015 hot clearances on the intake and exhaust. Does this sound right or shoud the exhaust be opened up a little?

Do you have a miss. (Putt out he tail pipe?) If not, leave it alone. If you do have a miss, loosen up a thou at a time unitl it goes away.
Should be good to go.

All aftermarket lash settings tend to be a bit tight. Adjust for best vacuum and idle quality, then stay there.

I tend to run a little more lash with this grind.
Try .016 IN & .020 Ex and see how you like it.

The setting works really well. Thanks Doc. I am now in full conversion mode to a super six. With all parts and gaskets I'm ready will be done over the weekend if the old bbd doesn't have any issues.

Post subject:  Go loose...

Erson Cams have a catalog lash of .022 all slant six grinds...

My 280/270 worked fine that way. The AM cam I got had an altered cam card that said .015 lash...it was tight enough to make sure the engine didn't want to light...loosened it to .023 and the engine took off for break in just fine. Once your engine has some time on it, you can play with the lash and see what it really likes. I would like to catch the turkey at the factory that put the .015 on the card....

I agree that this cam can likely go looser on lash, especially on the intake.
As an FYI, if Erson stayed "loyal" to the design I worked-out with them, the intake lobe is their RV10 and that is a GM lobe, designed around a .842 lifter diameter. I have taken that lobe out to .020 lash without a lot of noise. (it starts "ticking" after that)

The exhaust lobe (/295) is copied from the old Mopar Performance 244* cam. That lobe could go as loose as .024, in the engine I was working with.

In general, if you want lot's of torque, a smooth idle with lot's of manifold vacuum, run the lash on the loose end of the range.
