I did the exact same thing when I had my slanted Satellite. Turned out to be the alternator bearings. Changed the alt and knock went away. Sometimes noises or "knocks" will travel through the engine block and make you think its a rod or main bearing. Also, check your flex plate bolts, fuel pump, water pump, etc. |

agreed I had a cracked flex plate that sounded like a dead engine. But my guess is it is a wrist pin on that cylinder. Hope is isn't! |

Listen carefully, if it is a wristpin it will knock twice |

I'm pretty sure it's not a wrist pin. It sounds like one hollow knock per revolution. Sometimes it sounds like it is coming from the front but I can't get my ratchet extension too close to the moving parts. Now that I think about it, I could pull the fan belt off and then try to get my extension down around that area. |

Check your crank thrust. Knocking noises from the front can often be that. Could also be a cracked piston skirt or worn wrist pin on the suspect rod you already checked. All it takes is .002 to .003 thousandths too much clearance on the wrist pin to do this and might not be as easily detected by wiggling it from under the car. |

My fuel pump sounds like it is knocking....it comes and goes.... The engine builder on one of my engines pointed it out one day. I have had that same pump on a few engines now and the same knock on all three. Change fuel pumps and it goes away. |

Id wild guess if its not thrust, piston slap.... Not for sure how bad it can get on a slant tho, but v motors can get very loud.... does it 'knock' at all rpms? |
