I have used these before on motorcycle tanks, and they worked very well.
If Avgas won't eat it up, you'll be o.k.!

My '72 Valiant has what I believe to be the original gas cap. Its painted black like the body of the car. The rubber seal is still somewhat soft but it has cracks around the perimeter. Besides finding a replacement what can I use on the seal to help it last a little longer. The seal seams to stick to the filler tube between fill ups and I want to prevent this. Thanks! |

I use silicone grease to keep it them from sticking to the fill tube. Spark plug boot grease is the same and works fine. Just rub a little of it around the rim of the fill tube. |

I finally asked a friend in the rubber business ( i USED TO BE IN IT TOO) and he's sending me 5-6 sheets of 1/8" thick X 6" X6" Viton rubber. Viton is what they use on new cars so they don't deterirorate with ethenol gasoline. Hoping it will fix my truck so it stops leaking. Send me dimentions and I'll make a die to cut them out. Not tested yet but I don't know what would be better. Some say to use cork gaskets. I bought an assortment but since I found the Viton I'm gonna try it first. Danny |

Viton is great stuff. 1/8" might be too thick. Neoprene is the traditional material, I believe. Lou |

I doubt that neoprene would last 5 minutes. May be wrong. I am a lot. Traditional is not what we are looking for. Gasoline has changed.
