Post subject:  Oil light wont shut off

My oil light has been working properly, it lights when ignition turned on then goes out after the car is started. It would flicker if the car was sputtering out or idling to low or come on if the car died. Now it comes on and stays on after about 30 seconds of warm up, the car has been running great and all fluids are filled and fine, could this be moister as I have noticed with our heavy rains that the wiper gaskets must be leaking a bit durring real heavy rains? And where does the wire connect so I can make sure all connections are clean and snug.

Likely culprits would be a break in the insulation on the wire to the sender, faulty/bad connection at the bulkhead connector, or the sender is bad. These all assume that the oil pressure is good and that you do indeed have an electrical problem. The sender is right beneath and rearward the oil filter on the right hand (as viewed from driver seat) side of the engine. Easy test with car not running but in the run position disconnect the oil pressure sender wire (it should slide off) the light should go out. If it does not you have a short to ground in the oil pressure sender wire.

Another possibility is the oil pressure relief valve may be sticking open, and needs service. This device is to be inspected every 24,000 miles or so, and cleaned as needed. It is located at the oil pump consisting of a cylindrical steel piston an inch or two long, and a spring housed behind a large nut. Follow FSM instructions for cleaning to prevent damage.

I've had the same symptoms with bad pressure senders; several only lasted a year or 2.
