After consulting with muffler man Aggressive Ted via PM, I decided to spend some more dough to quiet down my car another notch. When I purchased this car in spring of ’08 it had 2â€￾ duel exhaust from Clifford headers to rear bumper sporting a pair of twenty year old Turbo Sonic mufflers; the noise was unbearable requiring foam ear protection on any trip longer than fifteen miles; and the drone... oh god it was dreadful.

After spending money on more important improvements than noise abatement for several years, the turbo mufflers were replaced with a more OEM type units that enabled one to drive without hearing protection. Still these mufflers did not kill that obnoxious /6 2500 rpm drone only knocked it down a bit, or the angry bee finger nails on a black board sound one of these engines generates when compression is been bumped up.

So today following Ted’s direction, I installed two 12â€￾ Flowmaster HP2 mufflers upstream from the current Walker mufflers. What a difference, as Ted said the high frequencies are gone, mid 2000 rpm head splitting drone gone. Squeaks, rattles, rear end gear hum, poly UCA bushings, and wind noise now dominate the cockpit with top up. A much more mellow pleasurable tone is being emitted from exhaust pipes. The once quiet 3000 rpm range is a new noisy zone from possibly excess fan noise, something that could not previously be heard over the exhaust racket.

So I’m thinking an electric fan is in order to make this car a better top down cruising experience.

I sent Bill some pictures of my installation with the 18" HP2 and FlowMaster 70. It really makes a huge difference! My wife and I really enjoy driving the car now on long trips now, especially over the mountains. All I hear is wind noise!
One of the guys at FlowMaster (ask for Ronnie ext - 488) turned me on to this idea of putting the HP2 up front to filter out all the high frequencies. Running l 2.5" diameter free flowing exhaust from 2.25" head pipe is nice for good power and high vacuum readings. This setup really works!

Glad it worked out for you Bill! :D :D :D

I added a couple of exhaust system pictures to the link below my name.

That Hushpower II is not a cheap muffler, but being stainless it will probably last a lifetime if not impact damaged.

A pair is much cheaper than hearing aids, battery changes, and tinnitus medicine untill the big dirt nap takes over. LOL
