Hi all,

I've looked through the forum and found lots of posts on converting to electronic ignition. I'd be grateful if anyone could point me to the thread I'd learn the most from as I get ready to put a Pertronix Ignitor II in my 66 Belvedere II with a 225. It's better to go in knowing all the mistakes I'm likely to make, and any other parts I should have ready.

Thanks!

Hi Josh ,cant tell you where to go to read up on it.Did buy one for my 63 from summit racing for 130 and the instructions are easy to follow.Best part is you get to throw those points in the garbage along with the ballast resistor.John

You may want to keep your point and ballast resistor as a 'just in case' mesure. I used the original Ignitor and it just stopped working after 10 months. It ran great until it didn't run at all. No signs or symptoms, just quit. Luckily, it crapped out in my driveway. Conversley, I have heard way more positive than negative feedback about Pertronix.

Do keep the old stuff as a justincase. If you can replace points then you can install Pertronix. I have used two sets of them with no problems. Not too many products do I recommend but this is one of them. Simply to install and, for me, good longevity.

Thanks everyone. I'll definitely keep the points as a backup. Compared to installing and adjusting points this is sure to be a breeze.

Hey all,

Pertronix wants a part number on my current distributor, but for the life of me I can't find one. Took the cap off, looked inside, found no metal tag on the outside housing, and the thing is jammed so far down in the engine it's not possible to "see" most of it anyway.

I'd really like to avoid taking the distributor off. Do any of you have advice on how to identify this beast so I can get the correct part?

Thanks!

take the distributor out, and don't spin the engine. Maker sure you mark which way the rotor was pointing and put the distributor back in EXACTLY the same way. You'll have to adjust the timing, but removing and replacing the distributor is quicker than changing and adjusting points. Well at least for me it is...maybe I'm just too blind and clumsy
