| Post subject: | 1964 dart instrument cluster electrical routing |
I'm still slogging away on my rewire of the 64 Dart SW. So much of the existing wiring was trash and gone and with all the modifications I've made it's a nightmare but I move forward a bit at a time. I'm trying to figure out the curcuit routing on the printed curcuit board for the instrument cluster. All the guages seem to be grounded at the sending units but the way the printing curcuit board is set up it looks like some get power through the board when the instrument lights are charged. ??? How does this work when I connect the sending unit wirs to the proper places on the instrument cluster connector? I probably am not being clear enough in my discription and probably should include a diagram of it but alas I don't know how to do that here. Any help would be appreciated. The wiring diagram I got from MYMopar is incorrect for the cluster connector also so I'm wondering what else is wrong. The High beam setup in the PB is weird also. |

Here is the diagram you should have: ![]() It's from the '64 Dodge Factory Service Manual. You really should have one if you're serious about restoring/modifying this car. Here's a heavily edited version of the connector area of the previous diagram, might be a bit easier to follow. ![]() I had forgotten that the wiring diagram on mymopar.com is as different from the factory manual as it is. I wouldn't say it's useless, but it's certainly not gonna answer your question. What may be confusing you is that the fuel & temp gauges both get power from the Instrument Cluster Voltage Regulator, which is inside the fuel gauge. The fuel and temp gauges are grounded at their senders, The fuel gauge by a jumper from the gas tank to the metal gas line & the temp gauge by virtue of the sender being screwed into the engine. The instrument panel lights have nothing to do with the gauges. Also, I don't find a connection to the high beam indicator in that schematic. It's in the factory manual diagram. I really like the Quote: Mopar Manuals on CD-Rom product. There may be other sources, or you might prefer the paper manuals. If we can be more help, just post your questions here. ATB BC |

Thanks again. Worked on it last night and a multitude of lightbulbs went off answering ALL of my question. I had it 90% correct but the clarification and solving the other 10% was a godsend Thanks |

Congratulations, glad I could help. Sometimes that last 10 % is by far the hardest. ATB BC |
