Post subject:  Wiring harness for a 64 A100 van?

Hello,

I have a 64 a100, that after a year of un(der)employment, I am getting back to work on again. The wiring harness is shot due to the ammeter frying. I bypassed it, and it worked for a little while, but it is truly shot, with a good 5 feet of it melted together.

I have been digging for months to find a harness for this beast and other than the "mopar" Painless setup for over $400.00, I cannot find anything specific. Can anybody steer me to a place where I can get a specific harness, or reassure me I am not throwing my money away on the Painless "mopar" setup?

Below is a thread I am running on this van on another site, for your viewing pleasure.

About all I can offer is my opinion of Painless. I know friends that have used their products and only have good to say. They use automotive grade wire (many companies don't), seal connections against moisture damage, and actually test everything they ship. They are an American company (Texas), which may help our own economy.

Of course you have the old fashioned ammeter issue to contend with asside. I seem to recall numerous posts about volt meter conversions and even one where you install a shunt to arrive at amps. Search the site to see what you can come up with.

Badawg, here are the wiring harness makers I've bookmarked. For the van, you'll probably need to call 'em. I haven't seen a site offering wiring harnesses for vans.
I used to have a '69 A-100, but it was a South Louisiana rustbucket. Great potential, but someone wanted it & I sold it!

You might post your request over on the Yahoo A-100 group. They're a friendly bunch, might have an answer for you.
