I plan to use 15" wheels on my '64 Dart after the front disc conversion gives me the large bolt pattern. (The rear will probably use adapter plates for the time being.) I'm wondering how large I can go on tires. I'll be making some clearance measurements of my own, but I figured a lot of you guys have done this before, so you might be able to give me a good starting point. I'd like as much rubber under this thing as I can get, what with all the terribly ill-advised road racing that the car will be doing. I'm not set on 15s, either. If I can use larger wheels and shorter rubber, that would probably be better for the application. |

This topic has been beaten to death, so it might be good to try searching this site, if you have not already. This topic is a huge can of worms. In a nutshell: 245/45-17s can be made to fit with some trimming and tight bushings in front and rear (esp poly rear leaf bushings). 245/45-16s are easier, and 225-50-16 or 225-60-15 can work with less trouble. Yes, you need to get the right backspace wheels, or get deeper offset wheels and combine with spacers. 63-66 Dart has bigger front openings than 63-65 Valiant. I have found 225/50-15s to work very well and be really easy to fit on a 15X7" rim with 4.5-5" backspace. All the best, Lou |
