Not sure which section this topic belongs in. Preparing to clean up and replace the rubber parts on the 62 Lancer. I need to know which rubbers are available and from what source. I am thinking the sender and other parts may interchange with the 63 A bodies, but I know the the tank and staps are different. Also, what are the best cleaning and perserving methods. Did a search found some cool stuff, but not all I need. Help Please Doug, Dan, other toad enthusiasts. Thx, Ray |

A lot depends on the current condition of your tank... Sender float and the sender gasket is the same as the 63 and up parts. The filler neck is sealed with an o-ring, that can be matched at most plumbing supply stores. The early sending unit is harder to find but later ones can be "retrofitted" into your tank, with some pick-up tube modifications. I hope that helps... DD |

Just did the tank on my 62 Valiant. I drained the tank and pressure washed it with heat and soap, then I put a length of chain in the tank with warm water and soap and shook the tank until I succeeded in putting a few pinholes in it. Damn... I repeated this process until no more rust or varnish was visible in the soap water. I rinsed with fresh water and dried with compressed air. A week later I had a friend weld up the pinholes and pressure tested the tank. I used the POR15 restoration kit. I couldn't believe how much more varnish came out. I let the tank cure for an extra week before putting fuel in it. I looked without success for my invoices, but I think I got the seals through a combination of Andy Birnbaum and a small outfit in Washington. I think I found them in a previous thread? Super happy with my results except my sending unite did not function when I reinstalled it. I also fabricated new a fuel line and installed an electric fuel pump. |

Not trying to hi jack this subject but here goes I am considering the Por 15 Tank repair, seems to be easily available and a complete kit. It sounds like it is worth the time and effort, was this messy to use? and what about disposal of the cleaning solutions? |
