Today I picked up a rebuilt distributor for an electronic conversion. I took it apart to reduce the advance slot and install lighter springs. I was lucky the it already had 9 degree weights, just what I wanted, so after a change of springs, it was ready. I also want to put together a race only distributor with no vaccum advance, probably with 7 or 8 degree weights. I will need to weld to vaccum advance plate to the 'breaker' plate. I also want to phase the rotor to the cap. I saw an ad or a new product release anouncement of a reluctor with several 2 and 4 degree + and - slots in it. Of course this was an eight point reluctor. I can't locate where I saw it. I would like to call this company to see if they have a six point reluctor available or can make one. Does anyone know who is making this reluctor? Cecil |

I'm pretty sure that Andy Finkbeiner (www.arengineering.com) makes em. He might do a 6 point one for ya - cool guy. Lou |

Thanks Lou, that's where I saw it, when I was checking on the M/C adapters he has. Cecil |

Couldn't you accomplish the same thing by "re-keying" the rotor? That's how I'm planning on addressing the phasing issue after I correct the timing when I use a turbo ECM designed for a crank sensor with my distributor. Bob D |

I emailed arengineering to see if they have or can do one for a slant. The 8 point model is $20. It is easy to phase. Just leave the pin out and make adjustments till the cap/rotor is in line, then install the pin into the slot that lines up the closest. Bob, with a crank sensor, only the distibutor needs to be turned to phase the rotor/cap. Timing is set at the crank and not the distibutor, is that right? Cecil |

My plan was to remove the existing key with a Dremel tool and then tap for an 8-32 screw into the side of the rotor where I wanted the new key. Might take a little trial and error but rotors are cheap. Actually if that six point reluctor becomes available it does sound like a better solution. I wouldn't have to worry about someone putting a stock rotor in some day! Please keep me posted on availability. Bob D |
