Post subject:  '66 crank - I need a dimension and comfirmation please

I just got off the horn with my machinist and he gave me the dimensions of the converter snout bore/recess in the rear flange of my '66 crank and it seems weird. I plan to have the recess machined now to fit a '68+ converter later and the dimensions he gave me seem strange, like there isn't much meat there on the hub ring:

Bore depth: .625"
Hub Ring OD: 1.960"
Hub Bore ID: 1.550"

A member here thought it should be 1.815" ID for the larger '68+ converters but wasn't 100% sure so I need to confirm this, it seems like machining to that ID dimension won't leave much left if the existing hub ring OD is only 1.960". (1.960" - 1.815" = .145" / 2 = .0725" hub ring width remaining??) Am I making sense here?? THANKS

That is right.

The later crank has a larger OD too, and a larger hole in the flexplate. 2.16 is the number in the chart.

Thanks, that solves that "problem". Looks like we'll be keeping the grinder, I really wasn't looking forward to the switch to an automatic anyway!
