I am new to owning a slant six but I am wanting to rebuild mine for show and go. I was told that I cant run over a 270 duration with an automatic transmision. I am working with two engines right now. I will try a 250 duration but I need to no if that is true or not. Any thing will help. scott |

You can run long-duration cam, but you need to get a high-stall torque converter (2500 RPM or higher) to use the cam effectively. This will make your off-line performance increase dramatically, even with a stock cam. Lou |

I also heard that you cant take a crankshaft from an early 225 and put it in a 77 or later. Is this true? I am wanting to get an early crank because I heard that the later ones are weaker and I want my engine to run strong. thanks. scott |

Yes, 60 - 76 engines all have forged cranks with larger bearings, the 77 and later engines have a cast crank. You can not easily "mix & match" parts between the two but the cast crak engine is still pretty strong and should be fine up to 300 HP. DD |
