Hey guys, Just have a quick question about the studs that hold the manifolds to the head. I believe we broke some a few years back when removing the manifold stack. They now appear to be replaced with bolts. Is this okay? I'm sure there is a reason studs were used we opposed to bolts (the fact that they back into the water jacket seems the most logical to me). Going on that though, as long as the bolts seal with the jacket and the correct washers are still used, everything should work correctly right? Any input would be good, thanks guys. |

I don't see why not. Just a convenience factor - its hard enough to get nuts/washers in on some of the bottom ones, let alone a bolt X" long. |

The only thing I'd consider is how the sealer & coarse thread pitch affect the torque you need to tighten the bolt. The /6 manifold spec is for the fine thread stud-dry. |

That's a good point. Hadnt though of that. Would it be higher or lower than the given spec?

I replace all of mine with bolts,,, no problems yet!! |

It mostly depends on the sealer- something like teflon dope would need less torque- Permatex might need a little more. If the holes in the head are ok I'd just get the correct studs & put them in. You can look in the dorman catalog.http://www.dormanproducts.com/catalog/h ... _Part1.pdf |
