Okay, the girlfriend has nagged enough and I've decided to install seatbelts in the Dart. A supposed set for the 63 was included when I bought the car but I'm unsure on how they are supposed to fit. What look to be the reinforced bolt holes on the floor of the car don't seem to match up with the seatbelts. Anybody have a picture of their setup so I can see if I have the right set and the right positioning?

Thanks,

Nick

My 63 Dart had the belts bolted down flat to the floorboards.
I would just find the holes and bolt them down.
Sorry to say I no longer have any 63 cars and no photo on file. :(

The problem is that the outer reinforced bolting areas are flat on the floor and one side of each seatbelt is retractable with a formed plastic casing. I've attached the other sides to the tunnel in the center of the car but if I bolt the side with the casing down to the reinforced bolt, the retractable belt ends up under the back of the seat in a postion that isn't really usable. I could make something work by bolting them to the inside lip of the door sill but I want to make sure that there isn't a better way (Right way?) to do it.

I found installation instructions for mounting aftermarket retractable belts and they use an L bracket or eye bolt on the floor that the belt attaches to. However, since these were supposed to be stock belts I thought that they should bolt right in. Of course, they might not be stock which was the other reason I was hoping someone might have a picture of their setup. The belts I have are kind of crappy so I'd just as well find the right ones instead of jury rigging something up.

I am restoring a 63 Valiant now.

I don't think that retractable belts were an option in 63. I was told that the belts were a dealer installed option, so this could vary.

All the ones I have seen have had the Airplane lap belt style. This is the style that is shown is the 1963 sales brochure.

I got a set of these from JC Whitney. They bolted right in and look factory.

Either way, they should bolt flat to the floor through that plate with the bolt.

Good Luck,

John
