I was wondering if anyone makes hid kits for 60's era cars, and if so, where to get them. |

The short answer is yes. However a proper quality kit is Very costly. HID is overrated. If you see a HID kit on ebay it is junk and likely illegal. I agree with the statement to read www.danielsternlighting.com he is a mopar guy and the absolute expert on all things concerning automotive lighting. |

If I recall correctly, you can use GE Nighthawks to significantly improve your lighting. These simply "bolt in" with no modification necessary. Dan used to recommend them very highly over stuff like the Sylvania Silverstars, etc. Try the Nighthawks. If you decide they are still not enough then you can explore Cibie and other options. - Mac (PS: Also be sure that you have 12.6 volts (or better) at the lamp socket with the lights on. The wiring in our old cars was notoriously poor. You might wish to upgrade with headlamp relays) |

Recently I purchased a headlight wiring upgrade from Dan that adds two relays, and larger gage wire which eliminated voltage drop caused by under sized factory harness. There was enough brightness improvement in lumen output from standard lamps that I have yet to purchase and install Nighthawk lamps. |

Agreed, do the relay mod and use good Halogen sealed beams.That's all you need. Please, do the other drivers on the road a favour and don't use coloured headlights. |

+1 !! Most of those aftermarket "colored" lights are very distracting. As are most HID systems- the OEM ones provide great visibility for the driver, but any bump or rise puts lots of glare into oncoming drivers' faces. (Oooooo! look at the pretty lights  )

My untrained eyes found both the GE Nighthawk and Sylvania Silverstar to be about the same (huge) improvement on my rigs. I remember once leaving work behind another guy's 80's chevy truck, the work driveway dropped down where it met the road. I was a car length or two behind him as he went to pull out, and my headlights were brighter on the road in front of him than his were... |

[quote]Also, has anyone found a way to get brighter turn signals?[/quote] One thing you can do to improve tail, brake, and parking light brightness is to disassemble their housings, clean the lenses & reflectors, and paint reflectors with fake chrome/sliver from a rattle can if they won’t clean up. I did this to my 67 Dart and it made a big difference when 45 years of crud was removed from the internal surfaces of these lights. Also the new gaskets stopped a lot of combustion fumes entering the trunk and cockpit that were passing around the old dry lense gaskets One has to be careful not to damage these old plastic lenses. Also before you attempt this cleaning process, order a set of gaskets from [url=http://detroitmuscletechnologies.com/]Detroit Muscle[/url] to replace the old rock hard dust leaking factory originals. His gaskets are high quality exact reproductions of what Chrysler used, and their service and prices are good. Somewhere on this site I think slantsixdan has posted a list of brighter bulbs for brake & directional applications sold by Honda dealers that can be used. Search for “Honda bulbs†by: slantsixdan |
