(Off topic except for that I'm trying to pull dents from both of my /6 vehicles). Has anybody tried it? I was resigned to buy a stud welder until I picked up a MIG welder w/a Tweco #1 gun that needs work. While poking around the internet looking for parts, I found a nozzle for installing studs,but it was discontinued. I found tons of sites in AU & GB that sell them, but none in US. Eastwood sells a $100 set (plug welding & dent pulling) with a cheesy version of the same thing (instead of a dedicated nozzle, it has a piece that slides over the nozzle and set screws in place after seemingly a bunch of adjustment & trial and error). They don't sell the attachment alone. Eastwood claims the MIG/stud thing to be "exclusive." Has anybody seen these things in welding supply places? (I just decided to start learning to weld, and until my parts come in, I'll have not actually started. I don't frequent such places, and don't know.) Can I just hold the stud with pliers and tack it on with a regular nozzle? Any help is greatly appreciated. |

I tried that with flux core (I don't have a bottle for my MIG yet) and just don't have the knack to do it consistently. Both a bottle and the Eastwood stud weld setup are on my wish list.
Can I just hold the stud with pliers and tack it on with a regular nozzle? |

I have a Magna-Spot 1500 that I got in a trade a few years ago and it works perfectly. Easy to use, just make sure the surface is clean and down to the metal. I use it to repair motorcycle tanks. |

Even the stud welder from Harbor Freight will work. less than $100 |

I haven't picked up the HF unit because I don't have a 20 amp outlet, (my mig can weld gauge metal on a 15 amp breaker) and my landlord would likely frown upon adding a 20A home run. I'm reconsidering, as I plan to move soon. |
