Is the super six intake a good upgrade?

I am trying to get to 10:1 compression. Currently I am having my bottom end machined. I am going to .060 over bore. Oregon Cam Grind 791. 1.70 intake and 1.44 exhaust valve. 340 springs. Likely going to have the head and or block shaved.

I am looking for an intake to take advantage of what I am doing but don't know if I NEED a 4 barrel or if a super six will do the job. I know the weight of it make a difference and I have plans on making upgrades as money becomes available.

Please anyone have an opinion? I have found a good deal but I don't want to waste my money if it is not a good option for me.

this is something of a can of worms. How wild of a motor are you building and what is the projected RPM range? What is your intended use o the motor? 1/4 mile dragster? Daily driver truck engine? Give us more info and we can help you better.

I am building a daily driver that will see a little track time. As for the projected RPM range. I am not sure of that. I know I topped out on my current Slant at about 4500 or so.

Just talked to Charlie though and we worked it out. I am buying a super six from him for my immediate needs and upgrades will come as the money does.

Good. Charlie will not steer you wrong.

Post subject:  Yep...

For that can of worms you will be looking at either a super six with a 350 cfm holley adapted to it-minimum-, or a 4 barrel intake...the 791 cam would work great in the 'mid' range' and have better than stock power down low, with good gears and the 4 barrel 5000 rpm at the track won't be problematic, but the small 2 barrel won't let the engine breathe enough to use the most out of your combo... (for those looking the '791' cam is a 230/230 @ .050 and a .483-9 with the 1.5 rocker ratio...which puts it on par with the Erson 280/280 cam they offer...), I would suspect your engine builder is going to install the cam at about 102-104 degrees intake centerline for best low-midrange power without strangling it...(assume you ordered it with a 108 lobe separation?)

If you go with the target of low 10:1 SCR, those valves, good porting, that cam and proper phasing, with custom distributor work, add the clifford 4 barrel and headers...no problem at 190-220 HP...use the little 4 barrel and you should be able to keep most of your gas mileage if you can keep your foot out of it.

Yes 108 lobe separation is what my machinist and I decided on.

I am looking for a 450 2 Barrel Holley. They have a few but I have not figured out which one I need yet. As for your estimate on Horsepower that is not far from my hopeful 250-280.

I'm leaning toward that cam too, ground on a 106 LSA installed at a 100 degree intake centerline (6 degrees advanced). Should be a torque monster. same CR as you are aiming for. My only difference is using Wisecos and long rods and a heavily ported head.

Also I don't think there is such a thing as a 450 2bbl. They are either 350 or 500 cfm. And you won't get 250 or 280 horsepower without way more cam, way more carb and way more revs.

I am sorry I meant a 500cfm. Its been a long day and WAY WAY to many numbers in my head.

I am thinking with that much air I should be able to get a bit more from the intake. Assuming the intake can drive that much air. I am not prepared to go to much more cam firstly because I am keeping the automatic and secondly I still want her to be a comfortable streeter.

You could probably come close with a 500 cfm body and using annular boosters that would bump it down to a theoretical 475-480 cfm flow...I think that the Holley 2010 2 barrel with annulars are about close to this...

What becomes a little problematic would be the little plenum on the stocker manifold with the large carb, and the need to completely gut the top plate of the manifold and blend the larger 500 cfm throttle bore sizes
to the Mr.Gasket 1937 adaptor.
