| Post subject: | Oil Light and Dome Light glitchy |
Okay guys I have a couple issues with my 62 Lancer. When the head lights are on and I turn on the switch for the Dome light all the dash lights and the shifter light goes out AND the dome light DOES NOT come on. Initial when I got my car back the oil light did not come on when I turned the key. Neither Rodney or I worried about it, but when we had the dash apart to lub the speedometer we went ahead and replaced the oil light bulb and low and be hold the oil light is on all the time. So to be on the safe side Rodney replaced the sending unit. The light is still on. We're 99.9999% sure that we have oil pressure since we've been driving the car regularly for 2 weeks with no engine problems. The only time the light does go off is when you turn the key to crank the engine just before the starter engages the light goes off. Any ideas? |

Oil light problem is most likely the wire that goes to the pressure switch is shorted to ground. Problem with the dash lights and dome light is most likely a bad headlight switch. See you in two weeks. |

The Dome light / Headlight / dash lights are all interelated on the Same switch.. Sometimes the 50 year old mechanical swithced get a bit glitchy.. I might try another known good switch or attempt to clean yours with some contact clearner for electronics from radioshack or any other reputable electronics store.. The contact clean may remover the oxidation on the contacts of the switch and help it to operate better. The other issue is probably just the oil pressure sendgind unit lead not affixed to the unit correctly or grounding on some other part of the engine or body somehow.. That is my guess.. Maybe have someone willge the sending unit lead while the car is running to see if the light goes off. All the Best! Greg |

Okay well the oil light was something all together different.... It was the ignition switch. We went out to wiggle wires and it would not stay running. As long as the key was all the way over to "start" it would run, but when I would let off the key to "run" it would die. So we put in a new ignition switch and now she cranks just fine and low and behold the oil light is now working properly too. Go figure. It is defiantly the switch that is bad on the headlights. If you hold your mouth just right, turn it all the way to the left, then turn it back just a hair to the right, the dome light comes on. Now all that's left to do is put in 2:94 posi, 'cause the 3:31 winds to much and fells like she needs to shift again, and she'll be ready to roll. Thanks for all the help guys, Alanna |
