Hi folks,

I am going to make the leap into air conditioning my 64 valiant. After reading for hours on this I have come to the opinion that I do not want to undertake a factory type set up. I looked at an underdash unit but I think that would be a bit tight under there with knees and such. I found that Classic Air sells a complete kit, cooling only, I Live in Florida, that mounts in the trunk. It looks like the least complicated of anything I have seen. Has anyone had any experience with one of these. I dont really need the trunk space anyway and other than some lenghty refridgerant lines I dont see a downside. The air blows from the back to the front but thats ok with me, i don tlike it blowing in my face anyway. Any comments are welcome..thanks, Mark

Sorry, but I can't give you any feedback Mark.

Surely someone will though.

It's an interesting concept though so keep us posted on which way you do it, good luck with it.

Your A/C can be built into the dash, but it's not exactly easy. In a non-convertible, you could get by with a smaller unit and only the vents below the dash.

As far as I know, there is no A/C unit that is made for the 66 and older "A" bodies, that mounts behind the dash. A different unit would have to be adapted in. One of the problems on the early "A's" is the wiper linkage gets in the way. I have a 64 Valiant that I was going to use to try and make a kit, but just haven't got arount to it, yet.
But, yes you can use a trunk mounted unit.
PS: I don't reccommend getting a compressor mount from any of the comercial A/C dealers. They do not work well on the slant six, in an "A" body.
Either fab up your own, or buy one of mine.

Mark, one other thing. Check with me before buying a condenser. I have several in stock that are the correct size for a 64 Valiant. I needed one for Lou's 64 Valiant, and no one had the right size in stock, at the time. So I went to the warehouse, but had to buy in quantity of five. Good possibility I can give you a better price, then some of the other suppliers.

Will do Charlie. I believe the package I looked at had the condensor in it. Ill check and see pricing without the condensor and if it affects their warranty if I go with a different one..Mark
