Hi guys, Well after 8 years of rebuilding I am finally about done with my 1964 Valiant. In retrospect I would have probaby made the trip out west and located one with a lot less rust but since I did not, I have gotten quite a lesson in rust repair. Of course like anything, by the time I got the hang of it I was done and wishing I had done it better. In any event it looks good. I also had the interior redone, the 170 engine was rebuilt by Charlie S with some minor improvements over stock such as a little beefier cam and some added compression. In the process I also upgraded to the super six and recently added the HEI upgrade and fuel line rerouting. I also rewired the entire engine compartment, new exhaust, new suspension and so on. My long winded question has to do with the fine tuning which I need to do. It runs fine but is certainly no where need where I want it. It currently has only about 50 miles on the new motor and I was wondering if I should wait until it is properly broken in, say a thousdand miles, before I spend too much time with carb adjustment and timing, which will bring in a a recurve I am sure. Just asking for some input from our experts. Thanks in advance. |

I would dial the carb and timing in soon. I wouldn't want to run it overly rich. |
