I have a 1973 dodge dart 4door with the 225 slant 6. Recently my fuel gauge stopped working. First I thought it might be the float so I replaced that and it still would not work. I researched a little and found out there is a resistor behind the gauges so I replaced that as well and it still will not work. It is grounded I bolted a wire to the frame so I know it's grounded. When I test it the gauge spikes. So I don't know what else to do at this point. Does anyone have any tips or tricks to try?[/list] |

I would check to make sure the ground is firmly attached to the tank sender fuel line, but I am thinking that the sender it self has a break or corrosion in either the sending wire or the sweep arm. You will have to pull the sender and look at the little "hump" on the tube that acts as the pivot for the float arm. If the wires inside are rusty or missing, or if the sweep is corroded, you can try to open and clean with a Q-tip and some acetone/alcohol, but for the effort it's just better to get a new sending unit. -D.Idiot |

Sorry for the confusion I replaced the whole sending unit. I will check the ground again. |

A ground strap, factory stile metal strip that snaps in place or homemade jumper wire fastened with clamps to sending unit tube & fuel line has to be in place to bridge flexible rubber coupling connecting sending unit to fuel line. In other words ground path for sending unit is via steel fuel line and its many clips fastening it to frame. |
