| Post subject: | 76 Dart Volt. regulator |
I checked the cold charging of the VR on the Dart. It was pushing nearly 15 volts cold. PUt the heat gun to it, and watched it drop down to 14.0.... Q1: still too high? Q2: SMP lists the VR as VR125 and VR125T , any real difference? Q3: What is the "condenser" (I assume that is what it is) that is attached to the harness for the VR - -what's it do?? I"ve never seen one tucked under the mounting foot like that. thanks! |

1. I think your numbers are OK. 2. The pictures of the two regulators on Amazon.com look quite different. The 125 does not have the plug for the Mopar alternator wiring, but the 125t does have it. 3. I've never seen a condenser there, but that doesn't mean that it's wrong. I suppose it might help with radio noise suppression. If the condensor is between the regulator and the sheet metal, I would remove the VR, clean the paint, corrosion etc. off the sheet metal with fine sandpaper and do the same to the bottoms of both mounting feet to get good solid metal to metal contact put a little silicone grease on the feet and mounting surface, put the condenser on top of the mounting foot, and tighten the screws firmly. 1. Yes - refer to info from fsm here. 2. The T at the end of Standard numbers is the lower quality / cheaper part. Their "Tru-Tech" line I believe it's called. The two pix I found look more or less the same to me. 3. Tucked under the mounting foot? Interesting. There should be one attached to ignition coil positive and ground. I believe ignition coil positive terminal goes to the same point as one of the regulator pins (switched battery hot) so someone may have moved it to where it was more convenient at one point. It is more effective if it's closer to the coil but don't worry about it if you don't have any radio noise. Where is the wire coming out of it going? |
