Post subject:  76 Dart Cluster check

Just pulled the cluster from the 76 Dart.

I didn't see a "off car" way to check the cluster.

Is anyone still offering a R&R service on this? I understand the 76 is a unique one.

thanks

Google "mopar gauge repair" for lots of hits. Magazine articles and vendors offering service.

pulled the cluster apart.

found some corroded traces. cleaned them all up and checked resistance end to end. ammeter trace "open".

Anyone know how to check the function of the ammeter, gas gauge and temp gauge out of the cluster?

The gas and temp gauges can be checked with a nine volt battery. Don't leave it hooked up long, and if the gauge goes down, rather than up, reverse your connections. The nine volt battery is actually a bit hot, but for a quick check it's OK. Nine volts should make the meter go all the way up. If you're nervous about that, make up a six volt supply with three AA batteries end-to-end. Six volts should give about a full scale reading, maybe a little over.

The ammeter can be checked with the same battery you used for the other checks. Connect the battery leads to the ammeter posts and look for the gauge to move, then reverse the leads and watch for it to move the other way.
