Post subject:  Eastern Race Schedule - 2013

Dear Slant Sickness,

Here are the 2013 Eastern Race dates - as far we know at the moment:

1) MoKan dragway on March 29-30 (Mark Goodman). Anyone from anywhere can show up to earn Slant Six Racing points. 1/8 mile racing Friday, 1/4 mile racing Saturday.

2) Mason-Dixon Dragway in Hagerstown, MD - May 18-19 (Rick Covalt) . Slant 6 Points racing Saturday and Sunday. 1/4 mile racing.

3) Farmington, NC (Fri June 14 eve) and N. Wilkesboro, NC (Sat June 15 aft/eve) dragstrips (Ron Hamby). Slant 6 Points racing Friday night and Saturday, 1/8 mile. Race Fri eve at Farmington, then 45 min drive to Wilkesboro, car show at Empire Chrysler Sat morn, then racing starting mid/late afternoon.

4) Knoxville Dragway in Maynardville, TN (Gary Bruner). July 26-27. Slant 6 Points racing Saturday night and Sunday. 1/8 mile racing. Probable car show in Maynardville on Saturday midday/afternoon.

5) Thunder Valley Dragway in Bristol, TN - Aug 30-31 (Brian Mimken). Slant 6 Points racing Friday eve Saturday. 1/4 mile racing both days

6) Mountain Park Dragway in Clay City, KY - Sept 28-29 (Rob Simmons). Slant 6 Points racing Saturday and Sunday.

7) Mason-Dixon Dragway in Hagerstown, MD - Oct 19-20 (Rick Covalt). Slant 6 Points racing Saturday and Sunday. 1/4 mile racing.

This gives us 12 races on 6 weekends in the East, plus a 1-2 day MoKan race in the Midwest.

RULE CHANGE DISCUSSION AND VOTES:

1) Rainouts: All voted to allow open rescheduling on rainout races during the season. This deletes our previous rule about the delay needed for rainout reschedule and that the rescheduled race must be at the same track. It was decided that this can only limit attendance, which is what we are trying to encourage now. After 5 race days of rainout in 2012, we cannot imagine this level of rainouts happening again, but this rule opens things up. Rainouts must be rescheduled during the calendar year of the rainout.

2) Crosstalk: After another incident this year with crosstalk on, we decided to formalize a rule about how to handle this. First, the race coordinator must ask the track personnel to turn off crosstalk for our race. Second, if the faster car loses due to crosstalk being on due to the track failing to turn crosstalk off, the affected pairings participate in a mandatory re-run. Both racers are allowed to change their dial-ins on the re-run.

3) Attendance points: After extended discussion with comments from the Slantsix.org board taken into account, there was a unanimous vote to award 5 points per racer per race (a race is defined as one set of eliminations). We feel this will encourage attendance, and is more in line with what NHRA does to encourage attendance at its amateur race events.

4) Attendance points on rainout: Attendance points are awarded for rained out events if your car is in line to enter the grounds of the race track for the scheduled rained out race, or you put your wheels on the track property on the day of the race. This was a unanimous vote except for one person in disagreement. You will not get points if you are in town or on the way, etc... You must be at the track to collect points.

In the East, we have also started yearly recommended donations from racers to the racing group. $20 per racer per year. At the first race that someone attends, they are encouraged to give the race coordinator $20, which will go to our treasurer Alanna Hargis to handle expenses, prize money, and awards for the Eastern racers group.

Best,

Lou

Okay dumb question. Is the Knoxville race on Friday / Saturday (as the dates listed says) or Saturday/Sunday (as the Days listed says)? I would assume that it is Friday/Saturday as that is when Courtney told me and when the track normally operates. But you know the saying about when one assumes.

5) Thunder Valley Dragway in Bristol, TN - Aug 30-31 (Brian Mimken). Slant 6 Points racing Friday eve Saturday. 1/4 mile racing both days

I might be able to make this race. I just took the car out today for the first time in 8 years. Did one MIGHTY burnout. Everything seems to be working. Got tags and Insurance. Watch Out.

Post subject:  Dead Truck!

Something let go in the bottom end of the motor. Don't know what. Kind of sad seeing it sitting in the yard. My wife is making rumblings about getting that THING out of the yard.

Anybody want a 1985 D150 Slant 2DW? Slightly Used

Is there camping at Bristol? Where does everyone stay Friday night? What time does the track open on Friday?

I usually camp at the track. Nice facilities and showers.
