Carter bbs 1964 and down style. Carb has been freshly rebushed. Carb has rebuild kit in it.Gone through all passages. IIdle and main jets clear. Theres no way nothing is clogged. I've pulled it apart 3 times now to tripple check all is good. Float set to 7/32. No intake leaks. Car ran decent before pulled off. Only to fix the leaky shaft. This is what happens: Wont idle where screws were set before.i had to set Idle set screws down pretty far to holdbutterfly open a bit so it would idle like $#!+. Engine revs a $#!+ load higher when I close the choke manually. Mixture screw doesn't seem to change much.. I'm stummped this was suppose to be a easy deal. But of course nothing ever goes that way.. haha. Please help this is my daily driver and its undrivable at the moment. |

Might not even be your carb. Points or elect. ignition? If points then you really need to check them as that can cause serious idling issues, power issues, all sorts of nasty things that may make you think the carb is the culprit. I would leave the carb alone for now and do a mini tune up. Check all plugs, wires, distributer, timing, compression test. |

Factory electric ignition conversion. It ran totally fine except for big intake lea k from the shaft. That's the only thing that changed except for a brand new fuel filter that seems to flow just fine. I don't think that fixing vacuum leak would cause timing to be changed would it? It should have just been bolt off bolt on fix with little tuning tweaks.. |

Maybe there is a leak else where..... It still sounds like a vacuum leak. I would check all vacuum lines. How old is your PCV? |

Manifolds are machined flat with remflex gasket only 4k miles. Checked every intake area with carb spray. Nothing changes. I've tore the pcv apart cleaned and checked. Still works. |

Did you check where the intake and exhaust manifold connect to eachother under the carb? Thats a notorious spot for huge leaks and yes leaks will effect the way the engine runs. First thing is to get all leaks under control. |

Therr are no leaks... only thing that changed was carb torn apart.for thottle shaft |

Is the idle mixture screw fit nice and snug? Not wobbly so that air can leak around it? Is the idle mixture screw tip straight, not bent, clean and shiny? Are the air bleeds clean? |

It sounds like something is wrong with your idle circuit- you have to set the idle speed screw higher to get it to run at all, so you're running on the main circuit (& also activating the vac advance). Are you 100% sure you used the correct gasket between the carb's main body & the throttle base? Is it possible that the rebushed throttle shaft is somehow not located correctly- (not the same centerline as before)? |

Yes gasket is exact match to old ones. Both shaft bores were reamed simultaniously. Throttle plate lines up evenly in the bore of baseplate.and moves perfectly. Shaft has .001 of play. Better then the oval bore of .004-.008 it was. |

Loosen the throttle blade screws and close the throttle and retighten the screws. Sounds like the blades are not centered in the bore or possibly have been installed the wrong way as some blades are not symetrical. Brian |

The throttle plate is centered. I could swear its the same direction before but I couldn't be 100% ived tried finding photos of the plate in its bore but no luck really.. |
