Does anyone know where I can get a quality external engine Tachometer for setting idle speeds and tracking engine speed?

Go ahead and save that weird car, the sedan, the 6 cylinder, the C-Body. If you want a big block musclecar and that's all you care about, your missing the point.

Autocorrect, lol. I just use a timing light with a built-in tach when I'm working under the hood.

But if you do find a good engine Rachel, ask her if she's got a sister.

Wow! Oops! If I've ever felt like an idiot, now is the time. I must have been auto correct :P Substitute: Tachometer

If you plunk the $100 for a craftmans digital dialback timing light it has a button that goes from advance to rpm right at your thumb...
