Post subject:  65 3-speed manual fluid

Hey. Long time since I've posted. The new baby took some time away from the Belvedere but now the engine is assembled and beautifully painted. Before bolting on the 3-speed manual, I want to put fresh fluid in it. I can't find what is required for it. An anyone know? Also, if a synthetic version is available, can I go with it?

3 speed manual is same as 4 speed manual:

Mopar used to use ATF in many of their manual trannies...but I would check to see what is in the gear box at the moment.

You may find oil in the box, in which case a nice 90wt GL-4 (not GL-5) will work fine. You can also use a non-detergent 30wt motor oil. Redline Manual tranny oil is also good...

Synthetics are not as good in this application as the synthetic is a bit 'slicker' than plain oil and can cause your synchros to not work as well causing a lot of missed shifts and grinding to get it into gear.

Looks like oil. I would think that it would have a red tint to it if it were atf. Thanks for the help!

I noticed today that in the Chysler service manual for my 69, they recommend Auto Fluid Transmission for the A903 (3 speed manual), but a manual trans gear oil for the 4 speed manual. I was going to ask if this was a mistake, but I guess is not, as from DusterIdiot answer...
